Saving Lives, Building Hope

Project Title: Relocation and Rehabilitation of “Amos Sove Lavi” Children’s Center in Pestel, Haiti

Organization:
Good Heart Ministry

Context: A Silent Emergency in Pestel

In a quiet coastal town called Pestel, in the Grand’Anse department of southern Haiti, a storm of violence is rising. Children—many of them orphans, abandoned, or rescued from abusive situations—are living in constant fear. For years, the “Amos Sove Lavi” Children’s Center has been a safe haven, offering them food, shelter, education, and love. But today, that very place of safety is under serious threat.

Violence against minors has increased dramatically. Armed groups roam the area, and sexual abuse cases are rising. One of our 15-year-old girls narrowly escaped being raped by two young men. The judge who sentenced a 22-year-old man for raping a 12-year-old girl had to flee town after threats to his life. Now, our staff on the ground are warning us: the children are no longer safe where they are.

Our Mission: Urgent Relocation and Safe Reconstruction

We must act now. Time is running out.

This project aims to:

  • Relocate all the children before the end of middle of August 2025 to a safer area already owned by Good Heart Ministry.
  • Renovate existing facilities to house the girls securely and with dignity.
  • Build a new dormitory for the boys, with separate hygienic facilities.
  • Restore a sense of safety, peace, and hope for these children, so they can dream again—to be teachers, nurses, musicians, and leaders, not victims of trauma.

What We Need: Materials and Labor to Build a Safe Shelter

For the Girls’ Section (10 girls):

  • 1,000 concrete blocks (10-inch) @ $1.70 = $1,700
  • 1 truckload of sand = $450
  • 15 bags of cement @ $17 = $255
  • 1 truckload of gravel = $600
  • 30 half-inch rebar rods @ $16 = $480
  • 20 quarter-inch rebar rods @ $14 = $280
  • 14 three-eighths inch rebar rods @ $14 = $196
  • Labor costs = $800
    Total = $4,761
  • Work duration: 30 days

For the Boys’ Section (8 boys):

  • 1,200 concrete blocks @ $1.70 = $2,040
  • 3 truckloads of sand @ $450 = $1,350
  • 25 bags of cement @ $17 = $425
  • 2 truckloads of gravel @ $600 = $1,200
  • 20 half-inch rebar rods @ $16 = $320
  • 20 quarter-inch rebar rods @ $14 = $280
  • 10 three-eighths inch rebar rods @ $14 = $140
  • Labor costs = $1,200
    Total = $6,955
  • Work duration: 20 days

Grand Total: $11,716

🛑 We do not need the entire amount upfront. If we can raise 30 to 40% of the total, we can immediately begin the most urgent work and ensure the children are relocated in time.
